Key West’s Old Town – A Great Place to Live

Key West’s Old Town – A Great Place to Live

If you want to be in the center of the action in Key West, Old Town is the place for you. Old Town is the historical district of Key West that encompasses most of the western portion of the island. Everyone is welcome in this friendly, charming district filled with faithfully restored wooden homes and lush tropical gardens. Attractions and lodgings in the area feature authentic nineteenth century architecture; the Audubon House and Old Town Manor are just two examples of Old Town style.

The Audubon House was the family home of harbor pilot and master wrecker Captain John H. Geiger. When John James Audubon left Key West after his visit in 1832, he had sighted and drawn 18 new birds for his “Birds of America” portfolio; many of these drawings were believed to have been created in the Audubon House garden. In addition to displays of Audubon’s work, the building also features a fabulous collection of antique nineteenth-century furnishings.

Old Town Manor is just one of the beautiful historic hotels located in Old Town Key West. Built-in 1886, this fully restored Victorian mansion has all the conveniences of a modern, state-of-the-art hotel and is state-certified as a Green Lodging facility. The grounds feature a path through one of the oldest gardens in Key West, meandering through ponds, rare trees, and century-old palms. The Old Town Manor is a great location for weddings or romantic retreats and one of the many fabulous places for your guests to stay while visiting you in Key West.
