Old Town is home to several large and stately residential homes. Some of these homes reflect the Victorian-era style while others reflect more modern influences.
This part of the island is characterized by classic bungalows and guest mansions. Generally speaking, most of these buildings were constructed between 1886 and 1912. These homes are characterized by the wood-frame construction of one- to two-and-a-half-story buildings that are set on foundation piers about three feet above the ground.
Some of the distinctive exterior features of these homes in Old Town include peaked metal roofs, horizontal wood siding, pastel paint colors, covered porches, gingerbread trim, side-hinged louvered shutters and wood lattice screens.
