Meadows on Key West History:
The area that now houses The Meadows was originally developed during the 1900s as Flagler Railway moved into the area.
During this time, Key West was considered to be the richest city per capita in the country! It was also considered the largest city by population in the state of Florida with roughly 23,000 residents as of 1913.
It’s unclear why this community was originally called the Meadows – especially given that there was never any meadows on its plot of land.
One story suggests that the name came from a nearby dairy farm at the time, who would bring in bales of hay and grass in order to feed their livestock.
Cold’s Milk Farm is still standing today!
